Skoool (Jay Baker)
My Story
Skoool is a rapper/songwriting who was born and raised in Austin, Texas. Born Jedadiah Baker, his love for music came at an early age but it wasn’t until around sixth grade that he noticed he had something more. At this time, he began “free-styling,” and noticed that he could jump from subject to
subject while being long-winded.
It wasn’t until ninth grade (around 1994) where he wrote his first song
after being invited by his classmate to feature on an album he was
doing. Though the feature fell through, Skoool realized that he had
the ability and skill to do more than free-style.
Over the years he would purchase beat CDs and write songs that
would not be released for lack of access to the studio. Then in the
early 2000s he began finding places to record around the city.
Because he was in the streets, and would eventually have to do time,
somewhere around one hundred songs would never be released.
While in the county jail he would give his life to Jesus and would
serve sixteen months on a three year sentence in prison. Shortly after
release, he began recording his first gospel rap/hiphop album My
Testimony (2010-2011), but for unforeseen circumstances the album
would not be released until 2016. He continued to write and record
some songs preparing to release other projects.
Skoool is excited for his new and upcoming project entitled The
Return of True Gospel Music scheduled to be released late 2025.
